Allantoin: Allantoin moisturizes from the inside out, boosting the water content of the extracellular matrix as it sloughs off the skin’s dulling outer layers. Allantoin offers a soothing nature to skin care formulations as an anti-irritant, as an anti-inflammatory and as a general skin protectant.

Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Leaf) Gel/Juice: The hardest-working plant in skincare, the humble aloe does everything from skin healing, inflammation-soothing and scar-reducing to promoting healthy cell turnover. There are some studies that suggest that aloe may be slightly antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral.

Aluminum Silica: This naturally-occurring combination of aluminum, silica, and oxygen has both absorbent and detoxifying properties. (One kind of aluminum silica, kaolin clay, has been used to treat poison ivy for hundreds of years.)

Avocado Oil: Avocado oil delivers loads of rejuvenating, antioxidant vitamin E. Extra-beneficial for dry, mature skin, the oil also cares beautifully for dermatitis, arthritis and eczema. Powerful sterolins soften and hydrate, reducing age spots, scars and acne marks.

Beeswax: Beeswax mirrors the amazing therapeutic properties of the honey it holds. A potent healer, beeswax goes to work on bruises, inflammation and burns, as well as enriching creams, deeply moisturizing tissues and creating a waterproof (but breathable) barrier that protects the skin from environmental stress.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: This medium-chain triglyceride, which comes from extra-virgin coconut oil, acts as a comforting, non-greasy moisturizer that effectively carries skincare deep into the skin.

Chamomile Flower Extract: As soothing as a bedtime cup of tea, this extract — derived from the Chamomilla Matricaria flower — calms ill-tempered skin, minimizes blemishes, relaxes fine lines, soothes itchy, flaky scalps and palliates the full range of dermal inflammations.

Cocoa Butter: A legendary tool in anyone’s dry-skin arsenal, sweet-smelling cocoa butter’s superpower is its ability to sink deep into the dermis. It has a super-high content of antioxidant vitamin E, which immediately goes to work renewing and repairing tissues at the cellular level.

Cocomide MIPA: Derived from coconut, this mild, skin-loving cleanser effectively removes surface oil and dirt without stripping or drying sensitive skin.

Cucumber Extract: Remember when your mom took a nap with cucumber slices on her eyes? She was on to something. Cucumber extract binds moisture, soothes inflammation, tightens and gently softens all skin types (and it smells great, too).

Decyl Glucoside: This mild, plant-derived cleanser gently foams away surface dirt while protecting even sensitive skin’s natural barriers.

De-ionized Water: Carefully purified, de-ionized water is free of any impurities that could interfere with a product’s stability and performance.

Diazolidinyl Urea: OK, it’s synthetic, but don’t worry — it’s good stuff. This preservative serves as an excellent water-binder and skin exfoliator, and it’s totally appropriate for delicate skin.

Emulsifying Wax: An essential ingredient in lotions and creams, emulsifying wax is the “magical” agent that binds together the ingredients to create a cohesive, blended, easy-to-use final product.

Ganoderma Lucidum (Mannentake Mushroom) Extract & Lentinus Edodes (Shiitake Mushroom) Extract: Derived from mushrooms that have been used medicinally in Japan since ancient times, these skin-loving extracts turn back the clock, firming and reversing oxidation with a powerful mix of vitamins A, B, B2 and C.

Glycerol Monostearate: Don’t let the scary-sounding name fool you. Glycerol Monostearate is an organic molecule that’s found naturally in the healthy human body, and acts as an emollient and emulsifying agent.

Grapefruit Seed Extract: Derived from the dried, ground seeds and pulp of the breakfast favorite, GSE is best-known for its hard-hitting antioxidant attributes (as well as its knack for detox). Particularly helpful for spot-prone complexions, the extract’s familiar, sunny fragrance handily lifts a gray mood.

Grapeseed Oil: Don’t let this super-oil’s sensitivity fool you. It’s not just a gentle moisturizer: its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties boost the skin’s healing power, stopping acne and minor abrasions in their tracks. It’s also a good source of vitamins A, C and B, as well as glow-promoting linoleic acid.

Green Tea Leaf Extract: Camellia Sinensis, the Japanese tea plant, has been prized for its leaves since the earliest moments in human history. The polyphenol-rich leaves are powerfully antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic — and so antibacterial so to be used as effective natural preservatives.

Hemp Seed Oil: Derived from the cannabis sativa plant, this oil’s sky-high levels of fatty acids Omega 6, 3 and 9 work together to form a superb barrier against moisture loss. Non-greasy and richly emollient, hemp seed oil sinks deep into the skin’s lipid membrane to smooth, soften and hydrate.

Hyaluronic Acid: Naturally bountiful in young, healthy skin, hyaluronic acid is an important part of what gives kiddie skin its bounce. No wonder: it retains approximately 1000 times its weight in water to keep the skin firm and the collagen hydrated. With the years, the levels drop — but we can use it topically to re-up that plumping power.

Jojoba Seed Oil: Anti-inflammatory jojoba oil moisturizes deeply — and soothes even the most troubled skin. Because it’s so similar to skin’s natural, healthy oils, jojoba penetrates fast to calm the prickly symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, dandruff and life’s other minor scrapes, singes and dings.

Palm Stearate: This naturally derived fatty acid softens and soothes (and keeps the formulation’s other ingredients intact, besides).

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3: Identical to a collagen molecule, palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 has been clinically proven to regenerate the skin’s upper layers by stimulating collagen production, thickening the epidermis and renewing the skin’s firming infrastructure.

Polysorbate 20: This soothing emulsifier and stabilizer comes from the lauric acid in coconut oil. It helps oil and water to mix, so products apply easily (without annoying separation).

Quaternized Wheat Protein: This moisture-locking system, comprised of four different fractions (albumin, globulin, gliadin and glutenin), quaternized wheat protein naturally forms a film on the skin to defend against environmental aggressors so the skin may effectively regenerate.

Saccharomyces / Sea Salt Ferment (Biomin®): Developed to deliver an arsenal of skin-loving minerals to nutrition-starved skin, this yeast-based dermophilic complex binds magnesium, iron, zinc, copper and silicon to a polypeptide agent in a way that absorbs beautifully and smoothly.

Shea Butter: Shea butter feeds environmentally stressed skin with vitamins A, E and F, ironing out premature wrinkles and facial lines as it calms and shields the skin from future damage. Shea Butter also naturally contains cinnamic acid, a light UV protectant.

Silicone: This non-greasy, natural moisturizer helps to deliver active ingredients through the epidermis while simultaneously serving as a smoothing, silkifying emollient.

Sodium Cocoamphoacetate: Cheerfully foamy and delightfully non-irritating, sodium cocoamphoacetate cleanses without stripping (and paves the way for treatment product absorption).

Soybean Oil: Soybean oil’s rich texture doesn’t just add a velvety feel to lotions and creams; beyond that, it replenishes lost moisture in the skin with a hefty serving of antioxidant goodness.

Sucrose Cocoate: Derived from a combination of sugarcane and coconut oil, this foamy cleanser and moisturizer is anti-irritant and non-drying.

Sunflower Seed Oil: One of nature’s most potent sources of vitamin E, the oil of the sunflower seed helps roll back UV damage. The oil’s carotenoids combine with vitamins A, C and D to form a protective barrier on the skin, shoring up the skin’s defenses and preventing against premature signs of aging.

Tamarind Seed Extract: Derived from the Tamarindus Indica seed, this lovely-smelling extract improves skin elasticity, hydration and smoothness by holding on to water molecules (much like similar superextract hyaluronic acid).

Tocopheryl (Vitamin E): Ah, vitamin E — that legendary fat-soluble antioxidant, bravely protecting sun-weary skin from UV and plumping out fine lines. It’s a classic for a reason!

Vegetable Glycerine: A key element in many natural skincare formulas, veggie glycerine comes from carefully purified vegetable oil. It helps to pull glow-promoting oxygen into skin as it helps hold on to moisture. It’s also naturally cooling and softening.
